TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF THE COMPETITION
- The evaluation of the entries is carried out on the basis of the criteria stated in the competition programme.
- The winners and awardees of each category will be notified immediately upon the selection of their entries. More information about the awarding of the prizes will be announced at a later date.
- No employees or sponsors of the Turku 2011 Foundation or Live2011.com Grand Prix, or competition jury members may participate in the competition.
- If a project is selected in the official Turku 2011 –programme or is funded by Turku 2011 Foundation it cannot take part into the Live2011.com Grandprix.
- The entries must be submitted online as instructed in Participate. The entries must be submitted in final format by the set deadline. The participant is responsible for ensuring that the entry arrives on time. The category-specific deadlines are stated under each prize category description. No updates or changes will be accepted after the deadline. Any entries that arrive after the deadline will not be included in the competition.
- Each entry may only be submitted to one competition category. This rule does not apply to entries submitted to the National Student Award and Event Award categories. Entries submitted to these two categories will be entered into one other category (Open, Participative Media, Digital Turku 2011, Culture 2.0 -Social Media Application or Artistic Game) selected by the Turku 2011 Foundation and jury, if the work is submitted prior to the deadline for the category in question.
- Any works published on 1 January 2009 or after can participate in the competition. The entry work may have participated in a competition prior to its submission to Live2011.com Grand Prix. Furthermore, some small portions of the work may consist of material published before 1 January 2009, if the portion of the material is a minor part of the overall entry. The work may make use of old samples and fonts, if the creator has the right to use them.
- No entries will be returned to the participants.
- The participants must ensure that backup copies of the work have been made. The organiser of the competition is not liable for any damage to or destruction of entries, nor will the organiser insure the works.
- All required supplementary materials must be submitted by the deadline or the work will not be entered into the competition.
- The Turku 2011 Foundation is entitled to disqualify an entry if it contains material that is against Finnish law, or is pornographic, racist or disturbing in nature, or if the entry otherwise violates the rules presented for the competition category in question.
- The Turku 2011 Foundation is entitled to change all prizes or award criteria in any of the prize categories. This rule applies primarily to competitions in which the received standard is low or in which too few entries have been submitted to justify awarding the winner with the full prize sum.
- The Turku 2011 Foundation is entitled to add or alter the competition rules if it deems such as necessary. This applies mainly to cases in which the rules are obscure or inconsistent.
- The work of others may also be proposed for entry in any competition category, but no later than one month before the close of the deadline for the category in question. Proposals are recommendations and do not automatically guarantee entry into the competition. If the organisers decide that the work can be entered into the competition, the Turku 2011 Foundation will contact the creator of the proposed work. Next, the creators of such works must officially submit their entries in order to compete for the prizes.
- An entry confirmation will be sent to the e-mail address provided, once the entry and required supplementary material has been received.
- The taxes due on the prize money are the responsibility of the prize recipient.
COPYRIGHTS OF THE ENTRIES
- The participant is responsible for owning or acquiring all the necessary copyrights to the entry and that no third party rights, such as of copyright associations´, limit the public or private display of entry or its parts. If a group participates to competition the participants shall write an agreement between groupmembers on the division of their rights to the prize prior to the submission of the entry. The participant is responsible for the costs that are caused by the lack of immaterial rights.
- Turku 2011 Foundation has the right to display the entry or its parts in its original or modified form without separate compensation and without restictions in the context of worldwide marketing, broadcasts, publications and distribution of the European Capital of Culture -year and of city of Turku. Turku 2011 Foundation will display entries especially in the digital capital of culture, Live2011.com –website that utilizes web and mobileservices. Live2011.com is a collective and experiental community built on culture, it serves also as a medium e.g. for video broadcasts of Turku -European Culture of Capital 2011 –programme.
- Turku 2011 Foundation has the right to publish without separate compensation recordings, compilations and format conversions and to add Turku 2011 –European Capital of Culture -branding in a way it sees to be appropriate and respectful to the artist and the work. An example of this can be an intro or outro with Turku 2011 –logo and text.
- Turku 2011 Foundation strives to open the way for best possible visibility for the competition, partici-pants and the entries in internet and on the other hand make use of mediaservices such as Youtube to display audiovisual material embedded Live2011.com. Turku 2011 Foundation has therefore the right to hand over the display rights of the entry to third parties for media distribution purposes, e.g. for the entry to be displayed in the context of European Capital of Culture or Live2011.com Grand Prix in television channels or media distribution services in internet, such as Youtube, Facebook or Vimeo. These media distribution services may have advertising of their own.
- Turku 2011 Foundation can give the complete or modified entry and parts of the entry for third parties to be shown or republished in operations that are non profit or free of charge to the viewer. As an exeption, subscription based television channels that may co-operate with Turku 2011 Foundation or the city of Turku can be display channels for prize-winning entries.
- Turku 2011 Foundations strives to present the competition works for people interested in media-art, new media and culture in public spaces. Therefore Turku 2011 Foundation has the right to display the entries in public cityscreens or in the form of touring exhibition with organizations co-operating with Turku 2011 Foundation or City of Turku such as exhibition organizers, galleries and museums. The public display rights of prize-winning entries are handed over to the City of Turku when Turku 2011 Foundation ceases its activities.
- The goal of the digital capital of culture Live2011.com is to continue its activities also after the year 2011. The display rights of entries are handed over to the city of Turku or to another organization that may administrate Live2011.com after the Turku 2011 Foundation has ceased its activities. The City of Turku or the other organization has the right to use third party media distribution services in internet to show entries in the same way as Turku 2011 Foundation has. The city of Turku or the other organization has right to use the prize-winning entries in the marketing of possible future competitions and events in a way it sees to be appropriate and respectful to the artist and the work.
- The participant is obliged to give Turku 2011 Foundation the essential information concerning copyrights, e.g the names of the authors.
OTHER COMPETITION TERMS AND CONDITIONS
General
In addition to the other competition programme terms and conditions, the Live2011.com Grand Prix, organised by the Turku 2011 Foundation, shall also comply with the following terms and conditions.
Live 2011.com Grand Prix is being organised by the coordinator of Turku’s European Capital of Culture year, the Turku 2011 Foundation. (Business ID: FI 2163716-6).
The participant accepts the competition programme and these terms and conditions and commits to comply with them for the purpose of entering the Live2011.com Grand Prix competition. The terms and conditions enter immediately into force once the work has been uploaded in its entirety into the competition entry system or once the work has been delivered to the Turku 2011 Foundation by another means, such as e-mail or other recording media, as specified in the competition rules.
The participant and creator ensure that the entry does not violate Finnish law, or contain any material that is offensive to natural or legal persons, nor is racist nor pornographic in nature.
The competition is open to the public, with the exceptions listed in the competition programme.
This document will be translated. If there should arise any inconsistency between the translations, the Finnish-language document will take precedence.
Applicable law and jurisdiction
Finnish Law shall be applied to any disputes arising from this document. Efforts will be made to settle possible disputes through negotiations between the parties involved. If no settlement is reached, the dispute will be handed over as a first instance to the District Court of Turku.
